Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Art Day Auction, which included the work Spitball by Tony Smith. It changed hands for a price of USD 32,500.00 (€ 29,150.60) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tony Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work For J.C. in May 2011 with an auction result of USD 530,500.00 (€ 369,017.81).
