Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work One-Two-Three by Tony Smith was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,500.00 (€ 11,344.04). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tony Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work For J.C. in May 2011 with an auction result of USD 530,500.00 (€ 369,017.81).
