Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work About 1789 by Tony Scherman was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,772.00 (€ 2,304.24). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tony Scherman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bonaparte in May 2012 with an auction result of CAD 39,000.00 (€ 30,477.03).
