TOM OTTERNESS (B. 1952) Free Speech incised with the artist's initials, number and date 'TO 1/1 2015' (on the reverse of the feet) stainless steel and limestone 66 1 ⁄ 2 x 19 1 ⁄ 2 x 19 1 ⁄ 2 in. (168.9 x 49.5 x 49.5 cm.) Executed in 2015.
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Tom Otterness could be acquired at Christies in New York in December last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art auction, the work Free Speech changed hands for USD 47,880.00 (€ 44,756.03) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 50,000.00 – 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tom Otterness achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Large Bear in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 1,512,500.00 (€ 1,335,776.74).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Tom Otterness konnte im Dezember letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art wechselte die Arbeit Free Speech für USD 47.880,00 (€ 44.756,03) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 50.000,00 – 70.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Tom Otterness erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Large Bear im November 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.512.500,00 (€ 1.335.776,74).
