Auction result misses estimated price range
When this work without title by Tom of Finland was auctioned at Phillips in New York in March 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,500.00 (€ 2,624.87). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Tom of Finland achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled [Twelve Works|AID701324] in May last year with an auction result of USD 289,800.00 (€ 270,058.71).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Tom of Finland im März 2012 bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 3.500,00 (€ 2.624,87) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Tom of Finland erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled [Twelve Works|AID701324] im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 289.800,00 (€ 270.058,71).
