Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Napoleon being transferred from H.M.S. Bellerophon to H.M.S. Northumberland off Plymouth, on 7th August 1815, for his final voyage to St. Helena by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in November 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,779.11) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797, which sold at auction in May 2003 for GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).

Northumberland off Plymouth, on 7th August 1815, for his final voyage to St. Helena von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. wurde im November 2012 in der Auktion Maritime Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 8.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 8.750,00 (€ 10.779,11) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
