In June 2014 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work A Royal Navy Frigate Chasing An Enemy Lugger Under The Cover Of Darkness by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen.. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,997.81), 33% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).

Im Juni 2014 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Royal Navy Frigate Chasing An Enemy Lugger Under The Cover Of Darkness von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 4.000,00 (€ 4.997,81) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 24.675,00 (€ 34.378,49).
