Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2012 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work A Royal Navy frigate engaging and chasing a pirate lugger under the cover of darkness by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen.. The price achieved of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,159.49) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Admittedly, works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2012 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Royal Navy frigate engaging and chasing a pirate lugger under the cover of darkness von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 5.000,00 (€ 6.159,49) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 im Mai 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 24.675,00 (€ 34.378,49).
