Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2011 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work A Royal Navy frigate engaging and chasing a pirate lugger off the south coast by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen.. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,485.11). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797, which sold at auction in May 2003 for GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im November 2011 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Royal Navy frigate engaging and chasing a pirate lugger off the south coast von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 8.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 8.125,00 (€ 9.485,11) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 beobachtet, die im Mai 2003 für GBP 24.675,00 (€ 34.378,49) versteigert wurde.
