Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2014 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work British Warships, An Armed Cutter And Xebecs Becalmed On The Tagus, Lisbon by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen.. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 6,250.00 (€ 7,809.08) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).
