Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November 2012 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work An English frigate off the Belem Tower in the Tagus, Lisbon, clawing her way to windward in the prevailing winds by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen.. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,625.00 (€ 13,088.92), 18% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797, which sold at auction in May 2003 for GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im November 2012 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit An English frigate off the Belem Tower in the Tagus, Lisbon, clawing her way to windward in the prevailing winds von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 10.625,00 (€ 13.088,92) und damit 18% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 beobachtet, die im Mai 2003 für GBP 24.675,00 (€ 34.378,49) versteigert wurde.
