Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2008 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work A brig running under full sail in the Mediterranean by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen.. The price achieved of GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,180.11) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).
