Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Contra-composition IV by Theo van Doesburg was sold in the 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in June 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 850,000.00 – 1,250,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 942,500.00 (€ 1,098,257.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Theo van Doesburg - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Contra-Composition Vii, which sold at auction in May 2007 for USD 4,184,000.00 (€ 3,110,086.97).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Contra-composition IV von Theo van Doesburg wurde im Juni 2021 in der Auktion 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 850.000,00 – 1.250.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 942.500,00 (€ 1.098.257,51) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Theo van Doesburg mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Contra-Composition Vii beobachtet, die im Mai 2007 für USD 4.184.000,00 (€ 3.110.086,97) versteigert wurde.
