Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Portrait Of Olive Craster (D. 1769), Half-Length, In A Blue Dress With Ribbons And A Lace Shawl, With A Pearl Necklace And Flowers In Her Hair, Holding A Squirrel, In A Feigned Oval by Nathaniel Dance-Holland was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2014, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 50,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 158,500.00 (€ 204, However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Nathaniel Dance-Holland - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Thomas Assheton-Smith (1752-1828), full-length, in a red jacket, which sold at auction in July 2021 for GBP 400,000.00 (€ 469,082.94).
