Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Nathaniel Dance-Holland achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in January 2021. In the Royal & Noble auction, the work Portrait of William Eden, 1st Lord Auckland (1744-1814), seated with his dog in a drawing room sold for GBP 40,320.00 (€ 45,596.32) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nathaniel Dance-Holland achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thomas Assheton-Smith (1752-1828), full-length, in a red jacket in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 400,000.00 (€ 469,082.94).
