In July 2010 Christies in London held the auction The Althorp Attic Sale - Including the Spencer Carriages, which included the work Unknown by Samuel Shelley. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,809.55), 33% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Samuel Shelley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 16,450.00 (€ 26,615.67)
Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Samuel Shelley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other im April 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 16.450,00 (€ 26.615,67).
