Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2013 Christies in London held the auction A Life's Devotion: The Collection of the Late Mrs T.S. Eliot, which included the work A Young Lady, In White Dress And Shawl Trimmed With Gold Braiding And Pearls, Upswept Powdered Hair; Woodland Background by Samuel Shelley. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 5,264.73) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Samuel Shelley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other in April 2002 with an auction result of GBP 16,450.00 (€ 26,

Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Samuel Shelley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit [The Aston sisters: Lady Legard and Mrs Hedges as Flora and Ceres, their arms around one another, in white dresses and pink and green stoles, ears of wheat and flowers in their upswept powdered hair, one sister holding a basket of fruit and the other|
