Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work April Iv by John Levee was worth USD 40,000.00 (€ 37,390.17) to a buyer in March 2017. This price was achieved in the auction Contemporary Curated featuring works from “In Its Own Light: Property from the Collection of Ed Cohen and Victoria Shaw” at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 12,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Levee; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot February Iv 1960 sold at auction in July 2020 with the realized price of USD 47,500.00 (€ 40,343.13).
