Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work A Chilly Spring by John Alexander was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April 2008, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 7,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at USD 34,000.00 (€ 21,839.67). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Alexander - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Good Fences Make Good Neighbors, which sold at auction in October 2018 for USD 60,000.00 (€ 52,947.41).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit A Chilly Spring von John Alexander im April 2008 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 7.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 34.000,00 (€ 21.839,67) mehr als viermal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von John Alexander mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Good Fences Make Good Neighbors beobachtet, die im Oktober 2018 für USD 60.000,00 (€ 52.947,41) versteigert wurde.
