Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of John Belsches Of Invermay, Three-Quarter-Length, Standing In An Interior, Wearing A Grey Coat Over A Richly Embroidered Red Waistcoat, Resting His Right Hand On A Book by John Alexander was sold in the Two Great Scottish Collections: Property from the Forbeses of Pitsligo and the Marquesses of Lothian auction at Sothebys in London in March 2017. The price achieved of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 20,508.27) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Alexander - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Good Fences Make Good Neighbors, which sold at auction in October 2018 for USD 60,000.00 (€ 52,947.41).
