JEAN POUGNY (1892-1956) L'Atelier the complete artist's book comprising ten linocuts with hand-coloring, on brown laid paper, 1914-1920, nine of ten linocuts with the artist's stamped-signature, number 164 of 140 (the edition was numbered 26 through 165), published by Au Vent d'Arles, Paris, 1964, loose (as issued), with title, table of contents, text by Jacques Prévert and justification pages, with full margins, together with the original brown cloth-bound portfolio case Overall: 18 3 ⁄ 4 x 13 1 ⁄ 4 x 1 1 ⁄ 8 in. (476 x 337 x 29 mm.)
Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work L'Atelier by Jean Pougny was auctioned at Christies in New York in April this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 400.00 – 600.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 378.00 (€ 342.39). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean Pougny achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Chaise Et Boîte À Chapeaux in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 1,762,500.00 (€ 1,354,727.13).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit L'Atelier von Jean Pougny im April diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 400,00 – 600,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 378,00 (€ 342,39) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jean Pougny erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Chaise Et Boîte À Chapeaux im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.762.500,00 (€ 1.354.727,13).
