Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Janine Antoni achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March 2012. In the First Open Post-War Contemporary Art auction, the work Umbilical sold for USD 17,500.00 (€ 13,124.34) - well above the upper estimate of USD 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Janine Antoni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gnaw in May 2000 with an auction result of USD 204,000.00 (€ 218,696.40).
