This artwork by Jan van Couver achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2007. In the British, Continental & Russian Pictures auction, the work In the harbour, evening; A figure on a coastal track; A Dutch harbour; Windmills, a coastal town sold for GBP 1,200.00 (€ 1,756.95) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 600.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jan van Couver; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Dutch village on a canal sold at auction in September 2005 with the realized price of USD 3,840.00 (€ 3,184.61).
