Saint Ursula (Bartsch 132; Geisberg 347 IV; Lehrs, Hollstein 412 IV)
engraving, circa 1480, fourth, final state, a good though posthumous impression from the first quarter of the 16th century, printed with a strong platetone, on fine laid paper with a Gothic P watermark (identical to Piccard 350, Arnhem 1516), trimmed on or just inside the platemark on three sides, a narrow margin above, a 6 mm. repaired tear at the left sheet edge, some pinpoint foxing only visible verso, otherwise in very good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2007 Christies in London held the auction Old Master, 19th Century, Modern and Contemporary Prints, which included the work Saint Ursula (Bartsch 132; Geisberg 347 IV; Lehrs, Hollstein 412 IV) by Israhel van Meckenem. The price achieved of GBP 9,600.00 (€ 14,130.10) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Israhel van Meckenem have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Bust of an Oriental Man in January 2019 with an auction result of USD 81,250.00 (€ 70,935.92).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im März 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master, 19th Century, Modern and Contemporary Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit Saint Ursula (Bartsch 132; Geisberg 347 IV; Lehrs, Hollstein 412 IV) von Israhel van Meckenem zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 9.600,00 (€ 14.130,10) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 8.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Israhel van Meckenem auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Bust of an Oriental Man im Januar 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 81.250,00 (€ 70.935,92).
