Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Miley And Mandy by Ghada Amer was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,250.00 (€ 2,003.92). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ghada Amer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (The Big Blue Expression Painting BBEP) in October 2006 with an auction result of GBP 120,000.00 (€ 179,290.69).

Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne

Als die Arbeit Miley And Mandy von Ghada Amer im März 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.250,00 (€ 2.003,92) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ghada Amer erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled (The Big Blue Expression Painting BBEP) im Oktober 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 120.000,00 (€ 179.290,69).
