etching with aquatint, 1929, on wove paper, annotated '(1 only of 5th state)' (presumably an un-recorded proof, Czestochowski records only four states), signed and dated 'Feb 9, 1929' in pencil, annotated 'imp' (the edition was 100 in Czestochowski's fourth state)', with wide margins, pale mat staining, surface soiling, two small unobtrusive nicks at the lower margin edge, otherwise in very good condition, framed

Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Gerald Geerlings could be acquired at Christies in New York in May 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Prints and Multiples auction, the work Black Magic (Czestochowski 6) changed hands for USD 3,840.00 (€ 2,992.29) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Other works by Gerald Geerlings have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in September 2002 by the work Black Magic (New York 1928) (see Czestochowski 6) at USD 4,182.50 (€ 4,233.73).
