Engravings and etchings, circa 1730-1764, 82 plates, good to very good impressions, mostly final states, on paper with an Auvergne and Grand Eagle watermarks (see Heawood 1317, dated circa 1772), bound in an album, modern calf-backed marbled boards, retaining earlier red morocco lettering-piece

Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2010 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master, Modern & Contemporary Prints, which included the work A Rare Collection Of Engravings And Etchings By And After William Hogarth by William Hogarth. The price achieved of GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,718.75) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hogarth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).

Im März 2010 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master, Modern & Contemporary Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Rare Collection Of Engravings And Etchings By And After William Hogarth von William Hogarth zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 6.875,00 (€ 7.718,75) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hogarth erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) im Dezember 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 375.000,00 (€ 418.908,42).
