Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2017 Sothebys in London held the auction Portrait of the Artist, which included the work The Harlot'S Progress by William Hogarth. The price achieved of GBP 2,500.00 (€ 2,850.49) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hogarth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).
