The work Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Margaret Peg Woffington (1720-1760), half-length, in a white satin dress with a pink rose, in a painted oval by William Hogarth was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2017. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 50,000.00 (€ 55,792.32), 67% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by William Hogarth have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).

Die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Margaret Peg Woffington (1720-1760), half-length, in a white satin dress with a pink rose, in a painted oval von William Hogarth wurde im Juli 2017 in der Auktion Old Masters Day Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 50.000,00 (€ 55.792,32) und damit 67% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Hogarth auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) im Dezember 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 375.000,00 (€ 418.908,42).
