Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Four Stages of Cruelty (4 works) by William Hogarth was sold in the Dance of Death auction at Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts in November this year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,408.00 (€ 1,290.80), 17% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hogarth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).
