Sold at the upper estimate price
In March 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Curated, which included this untitled work by Thomas Downing. The auction ended at the price of USD 35,000.00 (€ 31,734.52), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00. Admittedly, works by Thomas Downing have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Blue Tender in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 200,000.00 (€ 179,388.29).
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Im März 2020 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Contemporary Curated durch, in der auch diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Thomas Downing zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 35.000,00 (€ 31.734,52) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Thomas Downing auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Blue Tender im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 200.000,00 (€ 179.388,29).
