Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. could be acquired at Christies in London in November 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the MARITIME AND NAVAL BATTLES (PICTURES) auction, the work A British Man-O'War Engaging A Pirate Lugger Off The Coast changed hands for GBP 2,031.50 (€ 2,922.30) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 2,500.00 – 4,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Buttersworth, Sen. achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Nelson's patent bridge for boarding First Rates' at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, 14th February, 1797 in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 24,675.00 (€ 34,378.49).
