Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Walrus on the Beach (Sketch for "Marina") by Ludwig Bemelmans was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March last year. The price achieved of USD 6,300.00 (€ 5,679.26) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ludwig Bemelmans achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 302,400.00 (€ 257,515.12).

Die Arbeit Walrus on the Beach (Sketch for "Marina") von Ludwig Bemelmans kam im März letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 6.300,00 (€ 5.679,26) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ludwig Bemelmans erzielen.
