The »bidding war« ended at USD 75,600.00 (€ 70,450.10), 51% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ludwig Bemelmans - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack"), which sold at auction in March 2021 for USD 302,400.00 (€ 257,515.12).

Die Arbeit "And Low" (Madeline's Rescue) von Ludwig Bemelmans wurde im Mai letzten Jahres in der Auktion American Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 75.600,00 (€ 70.450,10) und damit 51% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Ludwig Bemelmans mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") beobachtet, die im März 2021 für USD 302.400,00 (€ 257.515,12) versteigert wurde.
