The »bidding war« ended at USD 7,560.00 (€ 6,815.11), 26% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ludwig Bemelmans achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 302,400.00 (€ 257,515.12).

Die Arbeit Seals on a Bicycle (Sketch for "Marina") von Ludwig Bemelmans wurde im März letzten Jahres in der Auktion Modern Discoveries bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 7.560,00 (€ 6.815,11) und damit 26% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ludwig Bemelmans erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") im März 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 302.400,00 (€ 257.515,12).
