In March last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Modern Discoveries, which included the work Paris Scene with Cat by Ludwig Bemelmans. The »bidding war« ended at USD 15,120.00 (€ 13,630.22), 26% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ludwig Bemelmans achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 302,400.00 (€ 257,515.12).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 26 % übertroffen
Im März letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Modern Discoveries durch, in der auch die Arbeit Paris Scene with Cat von Ludwig Bemelmans zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 15.120,00 (€ 13.630,22) und damit 26% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ludwig Bemelmans erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") im März 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 302.400,00 (€ 257.515,12).
