Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Road to Monaco by Ludwig Bemelmans was sold in the Two Centuries: American Art auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2021. The price achieved of USD 11,340.00 (€ 9,816.48) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ludwig Bemelmans achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") in March 2021 with an auction result of USD 302,400.00 (€ 257,515.12).

Die Arbeit Road to Monaco von Ludwig Bemelmans wurde im Oktober 2021 in der Auktion Two Centuries: American Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 11.340,00 (€ 9.816,48) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 10.000,00 – 15.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ludwig Bemelmans erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Illustration for 'Madeline and the Bad Hat' ("Pepito carried a bulging sack") im März 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 302.400,00 (€ 257.515,12).
