LARRY SULTAN (1946–2009) Boxers, Mission Hills (from the series The Valley), 1999 chromogenic print, flush-mounted on board signed in ink, credited, titled, dated, and numbered '1/10' on affixed gallery label (flush mount, verso); credited, titled and numbered on affixed gallery label (frame backing board) overall framed: 30 x 37 1/4 x 1 1/2 in. (76.2 x 94.6 x 5 cm.) This work is number one from an edition of ten.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In April this year Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Boxers, Mission Hills (from the series The Valley), 1999 by Larry Sultan. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 15,120.00 (€ 13,695.65) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Larry Sultan - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work My Mother Posing for Me from Pictures of Home, which sold at auction in October 2016 for USD 35,000.00 (€ 31,928.48).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im April diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit Boxers, Mission Hills (from the series The Valley), 1999 von Larry Sultan zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 25.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 15.120,00 (€ 13.695,65) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Larry Sultan mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit My Mother Posing for Me from Pictures of Home beobachtet, die im Oktober 2016 für USD 35.000,00 (€ 31.928,48) versteigert wurde.
