This artwork by Jonathan Chapline achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in November 2021. In the Contemporary Day Auction auction, the work Virtual Character on a Hyperreal Surface sold for USD 119,700.00 (€ 106,051.21) - well above the upper estimate of USD 60,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jonathan Chapline - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Image Gallery (Collecting and Transcribing), which sold at auction in May last year for HKD 1,890,000.00 (€ 224,383.56).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Jonathan Chapline erzielte im November 2021 bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Contemporary Day Auction wurde die Arbeit Virtual Character on a Hyperreal Surface für USD 119.700,00 (€ 106.051,21) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 60.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Jonathan Chapline mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Image Gallery (Collecting and Transcribing) beobachtet, die im Mai letzten Jahres für HKD 1.890.000,00 (€ 224.383,56) versteigert wurde.
