In December 2009 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture, which included the work The Little Lame Prince by Jessie Willcox Smith. The »bidding war« ended at USD 74,500.00 (€ 51,981.58), 49% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Jessie Willcox Smith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work How Doth the Little Busy Bee in April 2011 with an auction result of USD 386,500.00 (€ 260,778.62).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 49 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2009 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Little Lame Prince von Jessie Willcox Smith zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 74.500,00 (€ 51.981,58) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jessie Willcox Smith auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit How Doth the Little Busy Bee im April 2011 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 386.500,00 (€ 260.778,62).
