The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,280.00 (€ 3,386.33), 52% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Franz Xavier Wölfle; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Tyrolean gentleman smoking a pipe; and Another of a Tyrolean gentleman with a feather in his hat sold at auction in June 2003 with the realized price of GBP 2,585.00 (€ 3,714.79).
