Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Gentleman Smoking A Pipe; And A Companion Painting by Franz Xavier Wölfle was sold in the The House Sale auction at Christies in New York in June 2005. It changed hands for a price of USD 1,440.00 (€ 1,190.28) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Franz Xavier Wölfle - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Tyrolean gentleman smoking a pipe; and Another of a Tyrolean gentleman with a feather in his hat, which sold at auction in June 2003 for GBP 2,585.00 (€ 3,714.79).
