Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Mary Magdalene: an illustration for John Milton's 'L'Allegro il Penseroso' published by Allan Wingate, 1947 by Bernard Meninsky was auctioned at Bonhams in March this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 573.75 (€ 652.75). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Bernard Meninsky achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Bathers in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 12,000.00 (€ 17,784.76).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Mary Magdalene: an illustration for John Milton's 'L'Allegro il Penseroso' published by Allan Wingate, 1947 von Bernard Meninsky im März diesen Jahres bei Bonhams versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 600,00 – 800,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 573,75 (€ 652,75) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Bernard Meninsky erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Bathers im Juni 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 12.000,00 (€ 17.784,76).
