This artwork by Benedetto Luti achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2002. In the Important Old Master Paintings auction, the work The Madonna and Child with Saints Elizabeth and John the Baptist sold for USD 127,000.00 (€ 147,777.52) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Benedetto Luti; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Allegory of the Elevation of Cardinal Deacon Oddone Colonna to the Papal Chair as Pope Martin V sold at auction in January 2000 with the realized price of USD 222,500.00 (€ 228,041.41).
