Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work Scholar In Studio by Yong Rong was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in October 2018, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 30,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at HKD 250,000.00 (€ 28,150.37). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Yong Rong - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Scholar’S Rock, which sold at auction in May 2021 for HKD 750,000.00 (€ 79,280.79).
