This artwork by William Wood achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2014. In the The Raglan Collection: Wellington, Waterloo and The Crimea And Works of Art from the Collection of the Marquesses of Londonderry auction, the work Portrait of Katherine, Countess of Mornington (1760-1851), full-length, in a white dress and blue sash, a landscape beyond sold for GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,687.10) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Admittedly, works by William Wood have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Young Officer, In Red Coat With Blue Collar, Gold Epaulette And White Cross-Belt With Gold Plate, Black Cravat in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 11,400.00 (€ 16,535.59).
