Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of John Lambton, Later 1St Earl Of Durham (1792-1840) And His Brother William Henry Lambton (1793-1866), 1795 by William Wood was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,117.25). Admittedly, works by William Wood have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Young Officer, In Red Coat With Blue Collar, Gold Epaulette And White Cross-Belt With Gold Plate, Black Cravat in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 11,400.00 (€ 16,535.59).
