This artwork by William Wood achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in June this year. In the Travel & Exploration Sale auction, the work Four views of Chowringhee Road, Calcutta, from A Series of Twenty-eight Panoramic Views of Calcutta lithographs, Published by W. Wood, 1833 (4) sold for GBP 1,088.00 (€ 1,266.24) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 600.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Wood achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Young Officer, In Red Coat With Blue Collar, Gold Epaulette And White Cross-Belt With Gold Plate, Black Cravat in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 11,400.00 (€ 16,535.59).
