Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Drover and cattle in the highlands by William R. C. Watson was auctioned at Bonhams in London in November last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 4,080.00 (€ 4,727.79). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William R. C. Watson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sheep grazing by a loch, which sold at auction in October 2008 for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 11,153.11).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Drover and cattle in the highlands von William R. C. Watson im November letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in London versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – GBP 1.200,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit GBP 4.080,00 (€ 4.727,79) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von William R. C. Watson mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Sheep grazing by a loch beobachtet, die im Oktober 2008 für GBP 8.750,00 (€ 11.153,11) versteigert wurde.
