Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Marriage À-La-Mode by William Hogarth was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2014. The price achieved of GBP 938.00 (€ 1,207.52) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hogarth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) in December 2020 with an auction result of GBP 375,000.00 (€ 418,908.42).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 938,00 (€ 1.207,52) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 800,00 – 1.200,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hogarth erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Pugilist: A Quarterstaff Player, almost certainly James Figg (1684-1734) im Dezember 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 375.000,00 (€ 418.908,42).
